Really though... what exactly did you expect?!?

Labor Day has passed; school has begun, and the countdown to our move is in full effect. I guess this means that summer is officially over. Sniff...sniff. As promised, the following is a very brief rundown of our eventful summer.

On June 24th we headed out for Bethany Beach, Delaware. This was our 2nd year to visit there and we really enjoy it there. My niece Jayme flew in from Dallas and went with us. If you live in the D.C. area it is a great beach to go to for the weekend at just around a three hour drive.

While we were in Bethany Beach I got the news of Michael Jackson's passing. Now I really don't have an opinion on his later life and all the scandal that comes along with it but I do know that he was an amazing talent in this world and his music, dancing, and videos touched my life. I will always be a fan of that part of him and no matter what I still love him. Here are a few pictures I couldn't resist. By the way, I recommend youtube-ing your favorite Michael Jackson videos from time to time. I do it sometimes and I never get tired of watching them!

I think this is my favorite picture. Just when my generation was first discovering him. He looks so innocent. You know I am a sucker for a genuine smile and honest eyes!

Upon our return home I received more sad news. My cousin Shellie passed away on June 29, 2009. For those of you reading this that do not know me very well or at all I must say that there is a huge difference between writing about the death of a pop star and that of a family member. This is a blog and not a journal; therefore, I do not intend to give details. Suffice it to say that Shellie was one of the most kind, humble, and genuine people you could ever meet. She loved music, singing, laughing and making jokes. She never held back in telling those she loved just how much she did love them. She is my cousin, I love her, and I am grateful that family is something that lasts beyond this earthly life. God be with you til we meet again, Shellie! I love you!

Okay, well.... that got us up through June. On to July! I'll post it soon!

I told ya so!

Well here it is one month since I last updated my blog. I told you this was going to happen! That was one of the main reasons that held me back from starting a blog in the first place. I knew that I would fall behind on the upkeep thereof. I have several topics that I would like to cover today in order to bring you up to speed. I had originally planned to sit down this morning and write a small bit about each event but have quickly realized that I simply cannot do them justice without taking the time to make a separate entry for each subject. Needless to say this has been an eventful month with much to blog; so my new plan is to pick up where I left off. Hopefully in the next week I can get busy blogging a little everyday in order to get currant. We'll see how it goes.
Disclaimer: All events will be blogged chronologically; NOT in order of importance.

My Little Ballerina!

We enrolled Gretchen in a nine week dance class at the local community center and she just loved it! These pictures are from the last day which was June 18th. It was so great to see her learn something new and have a passion for it!

Summer Bittersweetness

Jacob finished the 1st grade on June 17th. He got into the car and the first thing he said was, "Rebecca gave me a kiss and a hug twice!".

Totally intrigued I asked, "And what did you do?"

He replied that he did nothing because he was a little "entarassed".

"Embarrassed?"

"Oh yeah, silly me, that's what I meant!"

After a little more questioning I discovered that the kisses were on the cheek and given because she said she would miss him.

I then went to say good-bye to Jake's teacher and when I returned to the car excited to talk about the last day of school I looked into the rearview mirror to see my super sweetheart son all puffy-eyed and trying unsuccessfully to hold back his tears. I asked him, "What's the matter Jakey?"

He came back with, "I'm sad that the 1st grade is over. I don't want to leave the
1st grade."

This is when I started crying. I explained to him that this is what is known as bittersweet; when you feel happy and sad at the same time.

He said, "But I'm not happy at all!"

This is one of those moments in time that is difficult to capture. My son is growing up and learning about the ups and downs life brings. Bittersweet.

Happy Birthday Luke!

Well our little baby boy had his first birthday on May 24th and since it is now June 12th I figured it is about time I post some pictures of this monumental event! We had a very small party with cake, ice cream, and friends at a local park the day before his actual birthday. He was more interested in his bottle than the cake but we had a good time nonetheless. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUKIE-DUKE!

Eight Years of Marital Bliss!

Yesterday was mine and Fabian's 8th wedding anniversary. We got ourselves a wonderful babysitter, got all dolled up, and then we headed off to Marcel's in Washington DC. We had a relaxing evening savoring delicious French delicacies and conjuring up memories of anniversaries past. I have to say we have had some really great times in our marriage and I love remembering and creating them. Without sounding too much like a Chicken Soup for the Soul book, I really must say that marriage; like any relationship; is full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows, and everything in between. The happiness and love in marriage comes from experiencing all of those things together; building memories that are exclusivly yours. I love my husband and I definitely know he loves me but I also know that our love started out as a little feeling of mutual attraction and interest in getting to know more about each other, and through the years it has grown into a real love and acceptance of each other, who we were, who we are, and who we will become. It is the roller coaster of life and the devotion we have to one another that solidifies our marriage and love. I look forward to many more years of growing in life and love with my sweet husband!

On a lighter note: I really enjoyed being able to wear my new cute shoes as we escaped from the monotony of the home in Fabian's fast car with music blaring. I love that feeling of freedom with my honey!

Congratulations: It's a Blog!

Welcome!

Let me start by saying that this blog has been in existence for many, many months inside the great deep of my mind. As a rule, I am not the kind of person who easily conforms to the ideals of others and considering that everyone and their grandmother has a blog I have been reluctant to jump on the blog-wagon despite the peer pressure from my lesions of adoring fans and my own need to force my great opinion on the world. Well, I have finally decided to take the plunge to become a blogger. (As you may have already figured out as you are in fact reading my blog!)
I have high hopes as I begin. As I said, the existence of this blog in my mind have been lengthy and glorious. I have plans to use this as a creative outlet and springboard to my eventual world domination. This may take time however so in the meantime the readers of this blog may expect some or all of the following:

1. Honesty. I find it extremely difficult to "put on" or "fake" feelings so you better believe if I am taking the time to type it- it is the truth as I see it.

2. Poor grammar, failure to proof read, run-on sentences, goofy jokes that only I understand but find amusing so who cares cause it's my blog.

3. Random movie quotes TV catch phrases, possibly an occasional review.

4. Gratuitous boasting of my husband, children, and maybe even myself. Pictures will be abundant.

5. Whatever else I feel like writing about.

I hope you enjoy reading about my Spazzy Life!
